A day of rail travel is a 24 hour period from midnight to midnight. This allows for unlimited travel on any number of trains for each day of use. Travel days may be used consecutively or non consecutively.

High Speed and premier trains require seat reservations. To obtain seat reservations we highly recommend that you pre-purchase your seats as far in advance of your travel date as possible. Passholder seat reservations are limited.

General
To start using the pass it must be validated at a European train station before your first journey.
Each further day of travel must be entered on your pass before you board the train.

If on any day you travel on an overnight train that departs after 7pm and don't change trains before midnight then you only have to enter the following day on your Pass

  • Residents of Europe, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and the Russian Federation are not eligible to purchase or use a Eurail Germany- Austria Pass.
  • Passes must be validated within 6 months of issuing date by a railway official in Germany or Austria.
  • Passes must be validated prior to boarding the first train / first use of travel bonus.
  • All parties must be present when validating the pass.
  • 7:00pm rule: if a direct overnight train starts after 7:00pm on a validated Eurail Germany- Austria Pass, the passholder must enter the next day's date on the pass, provided it falls within the validity of the pass.
  • Seat reservation fees are an additional charge and not inclusive in the cost of the pass.

Refunds

  • Eurail Germany- Austria Passes must be presented for refund unused and not validated.
  • A 25% cancellation fee plus GST (only in Australia) applies to totally unused passes returned within 1 year of issuing date.
  • No partial refunds.
  • Eurail Germany- Austria Passes cannot be refunded or reissued if lost or stolen.

Bonuses
Bonus offers can only be obtained in Europe, from the local ticket office of the granting company. Your rail pass must be valid in the country in question.

Pass holders are entitled to a variety of bonuses including numerous shipping lines.

Holders of a Eurail Flexipass, Eurail Selectpass or Eurail Regional Pass please note that a free bonus requires the use of a travel day; reduced offers do not required the use of a travel day. For reduced travel, the Pass must be valid for the country of departure or the country of arrival. For free travel, the Pass must be valid in the country of departure and the country of arrival. For domestic shipping lines and all other bonus offers; the Pass must be valid in the country in question.

Where a free passage on international ferry routes is offered, your pass must be valid for the country of departure AND the country of arrival. Where a discounted passage is offered, your pass must be valid for the country of departure OR the country of arrival. When traveling at reduced rate, you may travel at any time, provided it is while your pass is valid, even if all the travel days in the calendar have been used up.

Only the following companies will honor your Pass. Arrange your free or discount travel locally, and always confirm that the company you are dealing with actually honors the bonus discount.
