Tokaj Base Information

Starting at the town of Tokaj and heading towards Sátoraljaújhely on the border of Slovakia, your boating holiday on the calm waters of the Bodrog River sees you pass at the foot of the Zemplen mountains and former volcanoes covered with forests. The vines which are planted on the foothills of these mountains have made the region famous in the world of wine-making. If your crew is made up of a family then a must-stop place to explore is the Zemplén Kalandpark theme park with activities such as a summer bobsleigh run, zip line and much more.

Heading south, you’ll arrive at the Rakóczi Palace in Sárospatak – be wowed by the fascinating Renaissance architecture. The waters of the Upper Tisza are calm and perfect for swimming so take advantage of the Nicols fleet of canal boats all being equipped with a swim ladder for ease of getting in and out of the water and onboard deck showers.

Located in the heart of Tokaj in north-eastern Hungary, our boating holidays base is located at the meeting point of the rivers Tisza and Bodrog. This privileged position allows you to navigate your self-drive canal boat (no previous experience or licence needed!) in the heart of a famous wine region. At the foot of the Zemplén mountains, you will discover a protected natural area in landscapes of ancient volcanoes covered with forests.
