The
base at Négra was
the first stop of the "Mail Boat" which ran from
Toulouse to Agde in the 19th century.
From the surroundings of rose-red Toulouse , the Canal
du Midi takes you through one of France's most fascinating
regions.
Beyond the canal banks, shaded by ancient trees, the
surrounding hills are covered by a patchwork of little
fields. Medieval villages , romanesque churches (Baraigne
and Cazalrenoux), abbeys and monasteries (St Papoul)
provide variety to the landscape.
At Castelnaudary, home of cassoulet , the many fine
buildings form a treasury of the architectural riches
of the region.
LOCKS :
On the Canal du Midi most of the locks are electrified
and have a lock keeper. On the Canal de la Robine they
are automatic with lock keeper for 4 locks. They are
open daily from 9am to 12.30pm, and from 1.30pm to
7.30pm (high season) or 6.30pm (low season). They are
closed on 1st of May.

take direction Villenouvelle.
At Villenouvelle 100m after the lights, take the
road on the left in the direction "piste cyclable
du canal du Midi"
