Nivernais Morvan
Just like
in your dream, at the gates of the National Park of
the Morvan, the Nivernais canal, built at the
end of the 18th century, is probably the most beautiful
canal in France and it links the Loire basin to the Seine
basin, across preserved nature. Full of history and tradition,
this canal will tell you the story of the shipping of
timber from the Morvan region to Paris.

plains, hills and forests which give this country a natural
dimension that makes it a place to see. Located at the
meeting point of the Nivernais canal and of the Canal
Latéral à la Loire, Decize is really at

but it is also at the junction of 3 canals. To the south,
on the Canal from Roanne to Digoin, also called “the
quiet canal”, you will cruise right in the middle
of the fields of the Brionnais region along the Loire
river, an invitation to make random stops in the shade
of trees.
To
the east, the Canal du Centre, between the Saône river and the Loire river, runs through the
Ceramic valley to Paray le Monial, a small town famous
for its Burgundian Romanesque art, then the Maranges
Vineyards, known as "Côtes Chalonnaises”.

Loire leads to art and historical towns like Decize and

houses, a real natural preserve of wildfowl. From La
Truchère, you will sail through a wildlife sanctuary
created in 1980, offering you a mosaic of different natural
settings (marshy ponds, peat bogs, and dunes covered
with lichens and moss).
Finally,
go to Louhans, a brisk and picturesque city with its
main street lined with
157 arcades, and XVIth century frontages which, on
Mondays shelter its famous farm market. From La Truchère,
you also can reach the Saône river, then the Santenay
or Macon vineyards.

the Bresse region (a kind of fresh water fish bouillabaisse)
typical Burgundian dishes with famous wines from the
region. Canal de Bourgogne
