Liability and Comprehensive Insurance Protection:
The renter bears the costs of any damage that occurs during the rental period while using the vehicle in accordance with the contract up to €2,800 per damage. If the damage is caused by intent or gross negligence, especially if the renter was unable to drive due to the consumption of drugs or alcohol, the liability limitation does not apply. The same applies to any damage caused by not observing traffic sign 265 (maximum vehicle height on a road).

Despite the agreed limitation of liability, the renter is moreover fully liable for any damage caused by failure to observe the vehicle dimensions (vehicle height and width), by improper loading and unloading and by the load or by driving backwards without being directed. The renter is liable for any damages claimed by a third party against him/her or against McRent that the renter has caused to a third party during the use of the object of rental. The renter is liable for all fees, levies, fines, and punishments that are imposed on the lessor in connection with the use of the vehicle unless they are caused by fault of the lessor.

Vehicle Return:
Vehicle must be returned clean or a cleaning fee of EUR 220 will apply. If toilet is not emptied a fee of EUR 180 will apply

Authorised Drivers:
The vehicle may only be driven by the renter himself/herself and by the drivers specified in the rental contract.

Substitute Vehicle:
In case the reserved vehicle cannot be made available at the rental station, the lessor reserves the right to provide a vehicle that is comparable in size and equipment or bigger. That will not cause any additional rental costs for the renter. If a smaller vehicle is offered and accepted by the renter, the price difference of both vehicles is reimbursed. If the provision of a bigger vehicle causes higher ancillary costs, such as ferry charges and tolls or operating costs, such costs are to be borne by the renter.

Restricted Travel Roads:
There are forbidden streets in Iceland. Driving on all roads with the marking F is prohibited. F stands for „Fjallvegur“, which means „mountain road“. Road 35 should not be used into the highlands. Similarly 550 should not be used by motor-homes (you need a jeep basically for the whole interior of the country). The client will get a good safety sheet at pick up where they get explained exactly where they aren’t allowed to drive.

Pets:
Dogs are not allowed in the vehicles.

Shortening of Rental Period:
If a renter shortens their hire period by more than a week - it may be treated as a cancellation of the whole booking and a re-booking. This depends on when the amendment takes place and how many days of hire are being cancelled. Please ensure you always have travel insurance in place.
